SANDY — Jordan High School center Heneli Avendano announced last week that he is committed to play football at Utah State.
Avendano was recruited by Aggies defensive line coach Frank Maile. Avendano is planning on playing center at Utah State but also wants to try to play defensive tackle as well.
“It wasn’t an easy process getting here,” Avendano said. “My scholarship wasn’t guaranteed because of my grades, but I worked hard these past two years to make sure I would be eligible for the scholarship and it paid off. I want to let Utah State fans know that I'm willing to come in and work hard and help Utah State in any way I can."
Avendano played center, right tackle and defensive tackle for the Beetdiggers over the last two years. In his two-year career at Jordan, he led the Beetdiggers in pancakes and was one of the leading tacklers on the defensive line this year.
Avendano chose the Aggies over SUU and Idaho with the help of his family, coaches, faith and his church. He plans on serving a two-year LDS mission before going to Utah State.
