Wednesday night's matchup between the Utah Jazz and the Oklahoma City Thunder will bring do-it-all star Russell Westbrook to Salt Lake City and will also likely mark the returns of Derrick Favors and Rodney Hood to the Jazz after injury absences.
But largely thanks to injuries for both sides, the most interesting head-to-head matchup will be between the teams' fourth-year centers, Rudy Gobert for Utah and Steven Adams for Oklahoma City.
Gobert enters the night averaging 11.8 points, 11.6 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per game. Adams is countering with 11.6 points, 7.6 rebonds and 0.8 blocks per contest.
While Adams' statistical line may be less impressive than Gobert's, he has built a reputation for being a challenge in the paint on both ends of the floor. On the flip side, Gobert often seems to gear up to another level when he's facing a particularly challenging opponent.
If Favors and Hood are able to contribute, that will help take some of the offensive load off Gobert that he's carried lately while Adams may be counted on more in the second night of a back-to-back if shooting guard Victor Oladipo misses his second straight game because of a wrist injury.
Adams scored 14 points Tuesday night in the Thunder's 114-95 road loss to the Portland Trail Blazers.
