OREM — A man suffered a life-threatening gunshot wound to his chest Thursday evening, Orem police said.

The shooting occurred about 5:30 p.m. at Village Park Apartments, 1080 N. State, according to police. Police arrived and found the man with a single gunshot wound and he was taken to a hospital by ambulance.

Officers were not involved in the shooting, Orem police confirmed over Twitter.

Everyone involved in the incident — at least four people — were accounted for Thursday evening and there was no additional danger to nearby residents, Orem Police Lt. Craig Martinez said. He couldn't provide more details about the shooting.

"We've got several different stories from several different witnesses," Martinez said.

The shooting occurred near the entrance of an apartment — either just outside or just inside, according to Martinez.

Detectives were continuing to interview three people Thursday evening. The lieutenant said police were seeking a search warrant for the apartment and that the scene would likely take several additional hours to investigate.

Police do not have a recent history of being called to the apartment, Martinez said.
