Photos: Please sir, we could use some more: ‘Oliver!’ cast pitches in at food bank

Afton Higbee, left, and Ava Hoekstra sort donations at the Utah Food Bank in Salt Lake City on Monday with other cast members from Pioneer Theatre Company's “Oliver!” The theater company, continuing a tradition that began in 2011, is conducting its annual holiday drive coinciding with the run of the musical, which is based on Charles Dickens' "Oliver Twist." The theater is requesting patrons to bring canned or boxed food items and drop them off in the theater's lobby before the performance. “Oliver!” runs through Dec. 17. “We’re happy to continue this tradition with Utah Food Bank,” said Chris Lino, Pioneer Theatre Company's managing director, said in a statement. “We have hundreds of patrons coming in every night, filled with holiday spirit, and Utah Food Bank is a wonderful partner to harness the spirit of Christmas giving.” The theater company hopes to bring in 5,000 pounds of food during the 17-performance run.
