CLEARFIELD — Planning Commission Chairman Timothy Roper has been selected to fill a vacancy on the Clearfield City Council that was created with the resignation of Keri Benson last month.
The appointment leaves a vacancy on the Planning Commission.
The City Council heard from nine applicants Tuesday and cast preliminary votes that narrowed the field to three. After two more rounds of questions, Roper was unanimously selected to fill the post. His term will expire on Dec. 31, 2017, unless he seeks and wins re-election in the fall of 2017.
Roper, his wife, Marie, and their five children have been Clearfield residents for more than 14 years. He served on the Planning Commission for three years before becoming chairman in 2016.
Roper will assume the same responsibilities as Benson, serving as a member of the North Davis Fire District Control Board, Planning Commission liaison, a member of the Community Development and Renewal Agency, and a member of the Building Authority.
