Twitter reacts to Taysom Hill returning to play for BYU in 2016 season

One big question mark for the BYU football team was answered Tuesday, when quarterback Taysom Hill announced via Twitter he is planning on returning to the team in 2016.

Prior to Hill's announcement, speculation about his future had run rampant. Would he seek a medical hardship waiver and return to BYU? Would Hill head to another college as a graduate transfer? Would his age and desire to play professionally entice Hill to try to enter the NFL?

Or could Hill choose to forgo the sport and move on with his post-football career?

One simple tweet made his intentions clear.

“He’s probably the greatest athlete to play the quarterback position here, no offense to Steve Young. Taysom’s put together a lot better than Steve was,” BYU first-year offensive coordinator Ty Detmer said during his introductory press availability last month.

The news set Twitter abuzz about the expected return of a player who has already set the BYU mark for rushing yards by a quarterback with 2,212 rushing yards and 24 touchdowns.

Other BYU athletes, including a pair of teammates, chimed in:

KSL's Dave Noriega shared several highlights of the BYU quarterback following the announcement. Here's a sampling:

What will BYU do with its quarterback situation? Tanner Mangum, who will be a sophomore in 2016, was 8-4 as a starter after Hill went down with a Lisfranc injury in the first game of the 2015 season.

There was even some talk of a possible position change for the versatile Hill.

Not everyone, though, saw the announcement as a good thing.
