The Westminster women’s basketball opened the final home weekend of the season with a 73-55 loss to Regis University on Friday night in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.

Westminster (10-14, 7-13) was able to keep the game close during the first half and entered halftime trailing just 31-26. After the Griffins scored the first two baskets of the second half, Regis (17-9, 15-5) went on a 31-6 run that was capped with 18 straight points to lead 62-36 with 7:09 remaining.

During the long run by the Rangers, Westminster made just 1-of-13 shots. That played a part in the team shooting 36.4 percent in the game with only 10 baskets in each half. The Griffins also committed 15 turnovers, which accounted for 19 Regis points. The visitors shot 54.2 percent from the field and outscored the Griffins, 52-24, in the paint.

Natalie Parsons led the Griffins with 17 points, scoring all of them in the second half. She went 7-of-13 from the floor and made 3-of-6 from beyond the arc. Aubrie Vale was the only other Griffin in double figures as she scored 10 points.

Whitni Syrett led the Griffins with seven rebounds, and Denise Gonzalez had three assists and two steals.

Regis got a game-high 23 points – the most scored by an opponent this season – from Baylee’ Purdy. Kaylie Rader added 13 points and Karlyn Johnson had 10.

The Griffins close out the home schedule on Saturday when they host Chadron State in the Behnken Field House. The game begins at 5:30 p.m. MT, with a ceremony to honor the three Griffin seniors following the game.
