Photos: Big hearts and little hats

Jack Hardy, left, and Tyler Moffitt, both of whom were born with a congenital heart defect, help sort 850 little red hats at the Eccles Primary Children’s Outpatient Services Building in Salt Lake City on Monday.

This week is Congenital Heart Defects Awareness Week, and to mark the occasion, American Heart Association volunteers, Intermountain Healing Hearts and Emily Lewis, Mrs. Utah US Continental, presented the little red hats to Primary Children's littlest patients.

About 40,000 babies are born in the United States with a congenital heart defect each year, but thanks to advancements made through research, more infants with such defects survive to adulthood.
