Kittens saved from fire, treated for smoke inhalation

SALT LAKE CITY — Firefighters treated two cats for smoke inhalation after they were found in a burning basement late Friday.

The fire broke out after 9 p.m. near 926 N. 1435 West and the flames were doused within five minutes, the Salt Lake City Fire Department later tweeted. One person was treated for minor burns and was taken to the hospital for further treatment, along with one other person.

Two kittens and two dogs were found in the basement residence and the cats required oxygen and a special oxygen mask made for animals to be resuscitated, the fire department said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation and smoke and flame damages to the basement and rear of the home are estimated to be about $50,000.
