Dixie State senior men’s basketball player Mark Ogden Jr. was named to the Division II Collegiate Commissioners Association (D2CCA) West Region second team, which was announced on Monday.
Ogden Jr. (6-foot-9; Spring Valley, California/Steele Canyon HS/Grossmont College), who was named Pacific West Conference Defender of the Year and first team all-conference earlier this month, led the PacWest and is tied for 12th nationally in rebounding at 10.2 rpg. He also averaged 13.2 points a game to become the first DSU player in the program’s NCAA Division II era to finish a season averaging a double-double.
He broke DSU’s single-season rebounding record with 276 rebounds and posted a league-best 12 double-doubles overall, which is t-27th best in the NCAA Division II ranks this season. Ogden Jr. led the Storm in rebounding in 18 of 27 games and reached double figures a team-best 17 times. He also led DSU in scoring seven times and scored in double figures in 18 games with six 20-plus point efforts. Ogden Jr. finished the season t-fourth in the PacWest in blocked shots (1.0 bpg) and was a three-time PacWest Defender of the Week honoree.
Ogden Jr., who started in all 55 games played in his two seasons at Dixie State, wrapped up his DSU career as the school’s third-leading rebounder (465) and ninth-leading scorer (665). He is also ranked fourth in career blocks (44), fifth in career free throw percentage (.811) and seventh in career field goal percentage (.501).
The Division II Conference Commissioners Association encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education. The CCA is a key communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies and regulations that impact Division II intercollegiate athletics and work closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to NCAA Division II member colleges and universities.
