ZION NATIONAL PARK — Officials at Zion National Park have released the name of an Oregon man killed in a climbing accident last week.

Eric Michael Klimt, 36, of Portland, was climbing an area in Zion Canyon called “Moonlight Buttress" when he fell an estimated 800 to 1,000 feet. Park officials described the popular 1,200 foot climb as a technical route.

"He had a rope fixed on the upper three pitches when he fell. The cause of his fall is still under investigation," park officials said in a prepared statement Monday.
