Dixie State’s men’s golf team moved up three spots on the leaderboard to finish fourth overall in the final round of the Notre Dame de Namur Argonaut Invitational on Tuesday at the Poppy Ridge Golf Course in Livermore, California.
DSU (297-303-295) entered the final day tied for seventh (after an overnight scoring correction), and the Storm responded with their best round of the tournament, a +7 295, to finish at +31 895, which was the best overall result of the seven Pacific West Conference schools that were in the 18-team field. Chico State (299-289-289) won the team title with a three-round total of +13 877, followed by Simon Fraser (293-295-299, 887) in second at +23 and Sonoma State (307-298-286, 891) in third at +27.
Sophomore Dane Nelson (71-76-72) carded DSU’s low round of the day with an even-par 72 to finish in a five-way tie for fifth place overall at +3 219. The finish is Nelson’s third top-five individual result of the season.
Freshmen Nicklaus Britt (75-76-74, 225) and Compton Pikari (73-76-76, 225) finished in a tie for 26th place at +9, followed by fellow freshman Andrew Chu (78-75-77, 230) in t-47th at +14. Sophomore Donny Hopoi (79-81-73, 233) rebounded from a tough first day with a final round 73 (+1) to place t-61st at +17.
Dixie State returns to action next Monday and Tuesday, March 21-22, as the Storm travel to Southern California for the annual UC San Diego Invitational at the San Diego Country Club in nearby Chula Vista, California.
