Construction to force closure of HAFB’s south gate for 8 weeks

CLEARFIELD — The Hill Air Force Base south gate will close for up to eight weeks beginning Tuesday to install new speed tables and a new wedge barrier.

During this closure, commuters must use alternate gates to access the base. The southwest gate at 200 South and east gate from Fairfield Road will be open from 4:40 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. The west gate at 650 North and the Roy gate via 5600 South will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Speed tables are similar to speed bumps but with sloping angular sides instead of a rounded profile. A wedge barrier is a wedge-shaped hydraulic press that is deployed by security forces to prevent unauthorized vehicle access to the installation.
