MURRAY — "Murder on the FrontRunner Express: A Clue-less Pyramid Scheme!" is the latest comic offering at the Desert Star Playhouse, a venue known for mercilessly poking fun and for upbeat entertainment.

Written by Ed Farnsworth and directed by Scott Holman, the new show is a combination murder mystery and spotlight on Utah County health product startup businesses.

In the story, as the new leg of the FrontRunner Express opens for riders leaving Salt Lake City bound for St. George, Inspector Jacques Clueless is on board as the train inspector.

He's hard at work for the governor, who wants this to be a flawless, impressive trip.

However, the governor is not popular, and members of the FrontRunner crew start dying despite the efforts of Clueless.

All the train's passengers are suspects, from the social media darling to the wealthy widow, and from the lovely lass to the millennial Jared Jr.

"It's kind of a classic train mystery turned on its head," Holman said.

Holman describes the comedy as a hilarious ride on a real moving train set piece.

"This is the most elaborate set we've had in 15 years," Holman said. "It's really kind of fun to see. I think people will say, 'Gosh, that's really different.' It's something we've never seen before, which we think is kind of our trademark. We do things nobody has seen anywhere else.”

"Everybody's laughing," he added. “The choreography is very complicated.”

Holman said the lead characters, played by Farnsworth and Dan Larrinaga on alternate nights, really cut up and make him laugh.

"That's hard to do at this point," said Holman, who thinks the show will appeal to families and fans.

The cast includes Lee Daily as the governor, Rick Miller and Richie T. Steadman as Jeeves, Wendi Griffiths and Jessica Pearce as Lucy Jones, Sara McDonald and Brooklynn Pulver as Madame Beehive, Britty Marie and Brittany Shamy as Kimye, Danny Eggers as Jared Jr. and Matt O'Mally in the cameo role.
