Letter: Presidential election

I am an 18-year-old high school senior. Because I will be voting for the next president, I have been following the elections for the first time in my life. It has shocked me to see candidates abandoning principle and using emotional and angry rhetoric to capture the hearts of American citizens.

Donald Trump is the one who has stood out in my mind and, while I have to admit I admire his boldness, Trump offers no real hope or substance to his arguments. Trump’s approach is threats and personal attacks. He calls people names like a fourth-grader on the playground and cares more about Donald Trump than he does the whole country.

Although he has pinpointed the things that Americans care about most, he has not stated or even implied how he plans to fix it. Now, more than ever, America needs a clear and effective leader in the White House, and Donald Trump misses the point.
