SANDY — Midfielder Adolfo "Fito" Ovalle was waived by Real Salt Lake, the team announced on Thursday.

Ovalle, who was born in Chile but grew up in Layton, came up through RSL's Academy. The 19-year-old signed with Real as a Homegrown Player in March of last year.

In 2015, he was loaned to minor-league club Real Monarchs, where he recorded two assists in 21 matches (16 starts).

"Following a series of discussions with Fito we have reached the understanding that we cannot fulfill his short-term goals, desires, and aspirations. In lieu of this, Real Salt Lake has placed him on waivers," general manager Craig Waibel said in a news release. "We thank him for his contributions to our organization and wish him nothing but the best that the sport has to offer him in the coming years."
