Utah Valley University junior infielder Brittney Vansway was named All-WAC for the third time in her career at Wednesday evening's Western Athletic Conference Softball Tournament Banquet, while sophomore outfielder Breezy Roth was tabbed all-conference for the first time in her career.
Vansway led the duo by being named first team all-conference, while Roth earned second team accolades.
"I was very impressed with both of their performances in conference play, especially Breezy's, so it's no surprise that they were both named all-conference," Utah Valley head coach Nikki Palmer said. "Brittney was not only a well deserved three-peat all-conference player this year, but also in the running for player of the year. So the goal is to get her that award for her senior season next year."
Vansway, who was also named first team all-conference last season and second team all-league in 2014, earned her third-straight all-conference recognition on Wednesday after hitting an impressive .438 in WAC play this season with two homers and nine RBIs in 15 league games. She also put up four doubles, seven runs, a .646 slugging percentage and a .481 on-base clip. The Irvine, California, native also registered just two errors defensively at third base in conference-only play for a solid .971 fielding percentage.
Overall on the season, Vansway leads Utah Valley with a .333 batting average, seven home runs and 37 RBIs. She is also tops on the club in hits with 51, doubles with 15, total bases with 87 and slugging with a .569 clip.
Roth, who hails from Kaysville, Utah, earned the first all-conference honors of her career after shining in conference play for UVU this season. The sophomore outfielder batted .394 in WAC-only play with two home runs, nine RBIs and a team-best .697 slugging percentage and a .545 on-base clip. She also recorded nine walks, two doubles and two stolen bases.
Overall on the year, Roth is batting .265 with two homers, three doubles, 16 runs scored and 12 runs batted in. She has also walked 18 times and swiped four bases. Just last month, Roth became UVU's all-time leader in getting hit by the pitch, as the left-handed batter has now been hit 15 times in her career.
Vansway, Roth and the fifth-seeded Wolverines open WAC Tournament play on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. PT, against the host and fourth-seeded Seattle U Redhawks at Logan Field in Seattle. The winner of that contest will then advance on to face the top seed and 2016 conference champion New Mexico State Aggies on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. PT, while the loser will drop to an elimination game against either No. 2 Missouri-Kansas City or No. 3 CSU Bakersfield at 6 p.m. PT.
