SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah State Office of Education recently honored recipients of the 2016 Sorenson Legacy Awards for Excellence in Arts Education at the Salt Lake Marriott City Center.
This year’s recipients are:
Ashley Boyack, Redwood Elementary, dance; Bethany Hansen, Salt Lake School for the Performing Arts, dance; Melanie Kieffer, Park Lane and Edgemont elementaries, theater; Phaidra Atkinson, Corner Canyon High, theater; Jennifer Heldenbrand, Canyon Crest Elementary, arts integraton; Julianna Gylseth, Spring Creek Elementary, music; Chad King, Millcreek Junior High, music; Heath Wolf, Farmington Junior High, music; Rosemary Mitchell, Woodrow Wilson Elementary, visual arts; Jordan Anjewierden, Monticello Academy, visual arts; and Michael Bingham, Mountain Crest High, visual arts.
In addition, American Fork High School’s John Miller received a Lifetime Achievement award, and the Exemplary Arts Program award was given to Salt Lake School District’s Highland Park Elementary.
Each winner received a trophy along with a cash award of $2,500, with an additional $2,500 awarded to the school or district for the purpose of supporting the arts program.
The Lifetime Achievement award is given for exemplary service over a career. The recipient receives $5,000. Another $5,000 is awarded for an Exemplary Arts Program or Initiative in a public school or district.
