SALT LAKE CITY — Two people were arrested Sunday in connection with the death of a 31-year-old man whose body was found in the passenger seat of a car parked at a Cottonwood Heights credit union early Friday.
Jorge Arturo Castanon-Serrano, 35, and Marco Antonio Garcia, 25, were arrested for investigation of aggravated murder and aggravated robbery.
Investigators believe the two men were involved in a "robbery gone bad" at 1032 S. Redwood Road early Friday and that's where Mauricio Martinez was shot, Salt Lake police detective Greg Wilking said. Details about how the men may have known each other, how the robbery turned into a fatal shooting and who police believe was the gunman were not released Tuesday.
Garcia and Castanon-Serrano set up Mauricio Martinez to be robbed, according to a Salt Lake County Jail report.
Martinez's body was found in an abandoned vehicle in the parking lot of Mountain America Credit Union, 6440 S. 3000 East, about 7 a.m. Friday. Police determined Martinez had been shot and immediately suspected the shooting happened at another location.
Salt Lake police are now handling the homicide investigation and said they are seeking Jamie Clarissa George, 34, for questioning in the case. Willking said George is considered a person of interest.
George is described as about 5 feet tall, weighing 120 pounds with a thin build, blond hair and hazel eyes. Anyone with information about her whereabouts is asked to call Salt Lake police at 801-799-3000.
Wilking said Tuesday that the case is still active and more evidence is being collected. He could not say whether there would be additional arrests.
