NORTH SALT LAKE — A motorcyclist was critically injured in a collision with a pickup truck Wednesday morning.

The man was driving his motorcycle west on Center Street near Redwood Road in North Salt Lake at the same time that a truck was turning left out of a gas station parking lot to drive east on Center Street, police said.

The vehicles crashed into each other around 11:40 a.m., said North Salt Lake Assistant Police Chief Troy Johnson.

The motorcycle driver, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown into the roadway and suffered severe head trauma, Johnson said. He was taken by ambulance to Intermountain Medical Center in critical condition.

The man driving the truck was not injured. Neither man's name or age was released Wednesday.

Johnson said the crash was still being reconstructed Wednesday evening.

"We just remind everybody … to be aware of motorcycles and remind those people riding motorcycles to try to wear as much safety equipment as they can," he said.
