Murray Fun Days kicks off June 28

MURRAY — The city’s annual Fun Days will kick off Tuesday, June 28, with performances of the patriotic musical “1776.”

The musical, based on the events surrounding the signing of the Declaration of Independence, will run through Saturday, July 2, at the Murray Park Amphitheater, 520 E. Vine St. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for children and senior citizens. Showtime is 8 p.m.

The festivities will continue on Monday, July 4, with a Rotary Club community breakfast from 6:30 to 10 a.m. at the Murray Park Pavilion No. 5. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under.

A sunrise service, featuring a patriotic address from retired FBI agent Juan Becerra and music by the Murray Concert Band, will begin at 7 a.m. at the amphitheater.

A 5K, beginning at 8 a.m., and a kids race (ages 4 through 9), beginning at 9 a.m., will start and end near Constitution Circle in the park. The cost is $25 for the 5K and $10 for the kids race. Participants must register at mcreg.com by June 24.

A Fourth of July parade will begin at 8:30 a.m. at Fashion Place Mall and end at Murray Park. Please note there will be no car access in or out of the park between 7:30 and 11 a.m.

Between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. there will be a host of activities including a car and bike show, rides, food and game booths, a duck derby, a coed volleyball tournament ($30 per team), children’s games, and entertainment from a variety of groups.

The evening will conclude with a performance by Charley Jenkins at 8:30 p.m. at the Murray Park softball field followed by fireworks at 10 p.m.
