LOGAN — A 13-month-old boy died Monday after being backed over by an SUV in a roadway by his home.
The toddler was playing with other neighborhood children in the front yard and driveway at his home near 1700 South and 1330 West just before 7 p.m. when he was hit by the SUV, said Logan Police Capt. Curtis Hooley.
The boy's mother was supervising but "went in the home for a short period of time," Hooley said.
In that time, the boy went into the roadway, where the driver of an SUV was backing out from a driveway of a home across the street, Hooley said. The man driving the vehicle didn't see the boy and hit and rolled over him, the captain said.
The woman came back outside to find the man attending to her son on the roadway, according to Hooley. Emergency responders performed CPR on the boy and took him by ambulance to Logan Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The fatal incident remained under investigation Monday night. The boy's name wasn't immediately released.
"It’s just another tragic incident here tonight, another illustration of how important it is to maintain a good visual on your children," Hooley said.
