SALT LAKE CITY — Police were searching for a man Monday night after he allegedly shot and injured another man.

The incident occurred around 7:45 p.m. outside the Gateway Inn, 819 W. North Temple. One man was shot in the leg and taken to an area hospital with an injury that was not life-threatening, said Salt Lake Police Lt. Michael Hatch.

The shooter, who had booked a room at the hotel, fled the scene, Hatch said. Officers began looking for him using the help of witnesses to the incident, he said. No physical description of the man was immediately available.

The two men were arguing when the shooter retrieved a gun from a nearby car and fired a shot at the other man's leg, according to Hatch. The two men know each other.

It didn't initially appear that the shooting was drug- or gang-related, he said. Alcohol was also not believed to be a contributing factor in the incident.

Anyone with information about the incident can call Salt Lake police at 801-799-3000.
