Letter: Rest in peace

My grandfather served six terms as a Republican representative to Congress. He, like Wayne Owens, is one of the great, honorable persons I have known. The fact that 275 members of Congress in 1992 had banking problems suggests that it was likely something systemic and not fairly a reflection on the integrity of those members of Congress involved.

It is small-minded and unethical for anyone, for any reason, to attack those who are dead and not in a position to defend themselves. Even though I supported Robert Bennett and continue to support honest, effective politicians like Orrin Hatch, I wonder at the length some political figures are willing to go to try and win. Let my dear, good friend Wayne Owens lie in peace and avoid seeking to drag up questionable charges against him and his son.
