LOGAN — Police are seeking the public's help identifying a man who investigators believe has mailed five sexually explicit packages to a high school student.
The Logan Police Department posted a high-quality surveillance video to its Facebook page Tuesday showing the man officers say is responsible for mailing packages containing "sexually oriented materials and sexually explicit letters," said Logan Police Lt. Rod Peterson.
The man has entered the Logan post office, 75 W. 200 North, on five occasions to mail the packages to the same teenage boy, who attends high school locally, Peterson said. The boy is singled out by name in each of the packages, which are sent to his home, the lieutenant added.
Peterson declined to give the boy's age. He said the boy and his family "have no idea" who the man in the video is.
Secondary to social and television media assistance, Logan City Police Department received credible tips leading to the identification of an alleged stalking suspect. Logan City Police Detectives in conjunction with Logan area Adult Probation and Parole Agents were able to identify Thomas Mark Thackeray, a 69 year old male, living at 690 South Riverwalk Parkway #206 as the suspect in the most recent stalking case involving a Logan High School Student. Thomas has been involved in active stalking behavior for several months in this one case. Thomas Thackeray is an active parolee, released from the Utah State Prison to parole status in April of 2014, on similar charges. Detectives from Logan City Police Department as well as Agents from the Logan area Adult Probation and Parole office arrested Thomas Thackeray; incarcerating him on one count of 3rd degree felony stalking charge as well as placing him on a parole violation hold. Detectives found evidence of other potential victims and other potential criminal violations. The investigation is on-going with additional charges possible. Logan City Police Department is appreciative to those who helped identify Thomas, ultimately leading to his arrest and incarceration. "They’ve never seen him before that they are aware of," Peterson said.
Investigators are confident that the man in the released video is responsible for mailing each of the boxes, but it's possible someone else may have written the lewd letters or purchased the sexually explicit items, according to Peterson.
Anyone who believes they know the man's identity is asked to call Logan police at 435-716-9357.
