UVU basketball: Nixon welcomes Holland for 2016-17 season

Utah Valley University women's basketball head coach Cathy Nixon announced the addition of Jordan Holland to her 2016-17 roster.

"I am so thrilled that Jordan will become a part of our program," Nixon said. "She is a great girl, an outstanding student and a basketball player with a bright future. We are excited for the skills she offers. She is a great scorer, she can score from three, off the dribble, and she's a hard worker. We can't wait for Jordan to join our Wolverine family."

The Los Lunas, New Mexico, native graduated from Los Lunas High School this year and was named the Albuquerque Journal's 2015-16 Female Prep Metro Athlete of the Year. The two-sport phenomenon graduates from Los Lunas with three 5A State Championship rings, two in basketball and one in volleyball. The 6-foot-0 incoming freshman was an All-State selection in both sports her senior year.

Holland plays a versatile guard and has been known to play a forward as well, and she averaged 14 points per game, 8.1 rebounds per game, two assists per game and 3.76 steals per game. Holland led her team to a 5A State Championship with a 24-point performance in the final game. She led the Tigers to a 30-2 record and a 25-game winning streak to close the 2015-16 season.

As a freshman, she won her first state title as the Los Lunas Tigers went 28-4 for the 4A State Championship. As a sophomore, Holland was a part of the 4A State Runner-Up Team and was named to the All-State first team in basketball and volleyball. In 2014-15, Holland was once again a state champ at the 5A level and was named to the All-State Tournament Team as well as the Don Haskins Memorial Tournament MVP.

Holland was named to numerous other All-Tournament teams and was named to her respective all-district team every year. She was also recruited by Texas Rio Grande Valley and St. Bonaventure. Her dad, Wilson Holland, is a basketball referee at the Division I and Division II levels.
