SALT LAKE CITY — United Way of Salt Lake is encouraging the members of the community to “Stuff the Bus” by hosting school supply drives and volunteering to stuff backpacks that will help 11,000 children get the tools they need for the upcoming school year.
Companies, community groups and individuals are needed to host school supply drives now through Aug. 18. Those interested have the option of holding a physical drive or virtual drive that allows contributors to purchase supplies online.
Supplies will then be stuffed into backpacks and delivered to United Way Community Schools and neighborhood centers across nearly 30 locations that serve low-income children and families.
Supplies can be dropped off Aug. 15-18 at the Columbus Community Center, 2531 S. 400 East, from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Volunteers will stuff the school supplies into backpacks on Saturday, Aug. 27, at the America First Pavilion at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy from 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
Items that are needed include pencils, pens, spiral notebooks (wide or college ruled), markers, crayons (boxes of 16 or 24), pocket folders, glue sticks, highlighters and erasers.
