SALT LAKE CITY – Seventeen-year-old Blake Tomlinson fired a 6-under-par 65 to take the first-round lead at the Salt Lake City Open Saturday at Mountain Dell Lake Course.

The senior-to-be at Skyline High School leads River Oaks Golf Course pro Todd Tanner by one shot and Davis Park assistant pro Zach Johnson and University of Utah senior Gentry Hicks by two shots. Those four will play in the final foursome Sunday at 2:10 p.m. at Bonneville Golf Course.

Talons Cove assistant Milo Lines came in at 68, while Tommy Sharp, and amateurs Ryan Klassovity and Chase Lansford shot 69.

Bloomington pro Scott Brandt leads the senior division with a 69, while Daniel Johnson leads A Flight with a 71 and Rick Gates and Branden Kunicki lead the B Flight with 74s.

Tomlinson’s round was highlighted by an eagle at No. 5 and a 25-foot birdie putt at No. 14. Tanner had a chance to tie for the lead, but three-putted his final hole.
