Utah Grizzlies: Grizzlies host Rapid City on Friday and Saturday


The Grizzlies host Rapid City this weekend to open eight of their next 15 games against the Rush. Utah looks to build on an 8-1-1-0 record against Rapid City last year and a 14-5-2-0 all-time mark against the Rush.

It’s Stocking Stuffer Weekend on Friday and Saturday. Fans can buy a ticket for either game and get a free ticket to the game on Saturday, Jan. 6, to use as a stocking stuffer. This offer is available now online.

The Grizzlies Teddy Bear Toss is Friday, Dec. 15. Fans are invited to throw stuffed animals onto the ice after the Grizzlies first goal. The bears will be donated by the team during its visit to Primary Children’s Hospital, The Road Home and other local charities for children.

The Grizzlies team, along with Netflix, Mark Miller Subaru, Rewind 100.7, Mix 105.1 and Z-104, is having Star Wars Night on Saturday, Dec. 16. The night will be full of Star Wars content and will feature the Grizzlies wearing specialty jerseys that will be auctioned off live after the game with all proceeds going to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Goaltender Kevin Carr has made seven-straight starts for the Grizzlies. He leads the ECHL with 1,046 minutes played and is second with 473 saves. He stopped 64-of-66 shots this past weekend in Boise.

The Grizzlies penalty-kill hasn’t allowed a power-play goal in the last 297:55 of hockey and has killed 24-straight situations, which is a season high.

Ryan Walters had a five-game scoring streak snapped Saturday after totaling four goals and three assists in his previous five games. He is Utah’s leading scorer with 17 points on six goals and 11 assists in 16 games since being acquired on Oct. 31.

Ryan Olsen scored three goals in four games last week to pull into a tie for second on the team with six goals after doubling his total entering the week.

The Grizzlies are in a similar situation as three of the last four seasons when they’ve stuck to the course and emerged to have extremely successful finishes. In 2013-14, they went 8-14-1-2 and finished 30-10-2-5 for a 38-24-3-6 record. In 2014-15, Utah went 10-11-2-2 and finished 27-16-3-2 for a 37-27-5-4 record. In 2016-17, Utah went 9-14-1-1 and finished 29-15-4-1 for a 36-39-5-2 record. So far in 2017-18, the Grizzlies are 7-11-5-2.
