Letter: Stop the assault on our public lands

We must preserve the integrity and uniqueness of these irreplaceable landscapes for all people. We must maintain the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument in its entirety.

I live in Garfield County and I have a business here. I oppose Rep. Rob Bishop's HB4558. Utah's state and local politicians want to control and will sell off federal lands in Utah for resource extraction, not preservation. But how can we, who love, respect and work to preserve our phenomenal high desert landscapes, who make our livings there, have a voice in Utah?

There will be no second chance. We must stand firm against all forms of over-development on the monument. There will be no future for the Grand Staircase and other monuments if we do not unite and stand firm against the current assault on America's public lands.
