Police investigating possible child abduction in West Jordan

WEST JORDAN — West Jordan police are investigating a possible child abduction.

But the investigation appears to be out of an abundance of caution rather than a verified kidnapping.

As of 11 a.m., detectives had not received any reports of a missing child.

"We're not quite sure what we have," said West Jordan police detective JC Holt.

The investigation began about 7:40 a.m. when a 10-year-old boy waiting for a ride to school outside an apartment complex in the 3900 West block of Serenity View Way (6820 South), near Center Park Drive, saw what he thought was a young girl being forced into a van, he said.

The boy said he saw a van and another vehicle pull up to a girl, who appeared to be between the age of 12 and 16, and two men forced the girl into the van, Holt said. The boy immediately ran to a friend's apartment and had an adult call 911.

There were no other witnesses to the incident, despite it happening along the fairly busy Center Park drive.

"We don't think he's lying about what he thought he saw," Holt said.

But detectives were looking at whether the boy actually saw what he thought he did. Holt said if anyone knows of a missing child, or possibly a parent who picked up their own unruly teenager for whatever reason Thursday morning, to give them a call.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call police at 801-840-4000.
