3 keys to BYU's 75-66 victory over Utah State

LOGAN — McKay Cannon scored a season-high 17 points as BYU pulled away late from Utah State Saturday night at the Smith Spectrum to win, 75-66.

The turning point: TJ Haws hit a 3-pointer with 7:39 left the game to key a 7-2 run that extended Cougars' lead from three to eight points.

The Cougars overcame a big night from USU's Koby McEwen, who hit 5 of 8 3-pointers on his way to 20 points.

BYU hit 24 of its 28 shots from the free-throw line, shooting 86 percent. The Aggies, by contrast made just 10 of their 23 free throws.

The Aggies got the home crowd rocking after taking 15-7 lead 8:42 into the first half on Sam Merrill's 3-pointer, but BYU rallied to take a 28-24 lead at halftime.

The hero: BYU's Yoeli Childs had a team-high points (17), rebounds (8) and blocks (2).
