Letter: What does the sign say? Stop!

Why are so many drivers continually breaking the law?

No one stops at arterial stop signs. I wonder how long it will be before they are running stoplights also.

S.T.O.P. spells stop. It means to stop.

When I was a teenager in San Francisco, I was stopped for pausing at an arterial stop sign. The policeman gave me a ticket and told me when you come to a stop, stop and count three seconds, then when it is safe to proceed, you may proceed (the absolute best policy).

If this idea were followed by everyone, think about how much safer it would be, and consider how fewer accidents would occur.
