FILLMORE — A Utah Highway Patrol trooper suffered minor injuries when his patrol car was hit by an SUV that lost control on I-15 on Thursday.
The incident happened about 1:30 p.m. while UHP trooper Jeff Rowell was stopped to assist another motorist who had slid off the road, according to a statement from UHP.
As Rowell was sitting in his patrol car talking to dispatchers, "another motorist lost control of his car and slid into the rear of trooper Rowell's patrol car. The other motorist stated that he was traveling at 78 mph when he lost control," according to a statement from UHP.
Although 78 is close to the 75 mph speed limit during normal conditions, UHP said slower speeds would have been more appropriate for the weather that day. The driver, who was not injured, was cited for driving too fast for the conditions.
Rowell was treated and released at a hospital in Fillmore.
