CEDAR CITY (AP) — Tyler Hall scored 23 points, including the final six and Harald Frey added 19 with five 3-pointers as Montana State held off Southern Utah 83-78 on Saturday.
Quinton Everett scored 18 points on six-for-eight shooting for the Bobcats, who shot 47 percent from the field (27-58), with 11 3-pointers and forced 23 Southern Utah turnovers. Frey and Mandrell Worthy each had three of Montana State's 11 steals.
Randy Onwuasor led Utah State with 32 points. Onwuasor has broken 30 five times this season and is tied with Hall for the Big Sky Conference scoring lead. John Marshall (seven points) sank a pair of free throws that pulled the Thunderbirds (4-22, 2-11) to within 67-65 with 6:28 to play.
Frey and Everett knocked down consecutive 3-pointers wrapped around a Marshall misfire from deep and Montana State (12-14, 7-6) pushed the lead back to eight. Southern Utah came within four twice more before Hall took over.
