Editor's note: A previous version of this story said there was a hole in the Oroville dam. The hole was actually in the emergency spillway.
Here’s a look at the news for Feb. 14.
Flynn resigns amid controversy
U.S. National Security Advisor Michael Flynn resigned Monday night after reports surfaced that he spoke with Russian diplomats about the U.S. sanctions on Russia before President Donald Trump was inaugurated, according to BBC.
Both The New York Times and The Washington Post reported that Flynn misled Washington officials over his conversations with a Russian ambassador. Flynn also spoke with Vice President Mike Pence about the conversations, but allegedly spoke of “incomplete information,” the Post reported.
Flynn’s conversations are considered illegal because private citizens cannot make negotiations with other countries, BBC reported.
According to the Post, Flynn published a letter that said he “inadvertently briefed the Vice President Elect and others with incomplete information regarding my phone calls with the Russian ambassador. I have sincerely apologized to the president and the vice president.”

r/wedding - This is how I am currently feeling about Wedding and engagement season coming up... {Yes, this is an actual photo of me (extremely single) helping my best friend with her bridals. The photographer asked me to throw her train up and then dive out of the shot, and so I did. Very theatrically.} from wedding
According to CNN, Lt. Gen Keith Kellogg, Gen. David Petraeus and Vice Admiral Bob Howard are all potential replacements for Flynn.
Utah civic leaders: help the homeless
State leaders hope that Utahns will work to help Salt Lake City’s homeless population as much as possible, according to the Deseret News.
Leaders hope that Salt Lake City residents will also support the newly announced homeless resource centers and help make them as successful as possible.
Utah House Speaker Greg Hughes joined Rep. Angela Romero, Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams and Salt Lake City Mayor Jackie Biskupski on a panel Monday to discuss these issues.
Hughes told the Deseret News that he is upset about how homelessness affects Salt Lake City and its people.
"These crimes are happening around us in real time without pause. And I think that’s the epiphany I went through," Hughes said. "I’m just pissed off, OK? I am. I’m angry about it. … I'm angry that there are children in this area."

ABC News calls BYU senior ‘bridesmaid of the year’
BYU senior Janessa James received national media attention this week after a bridal photo of her and a friend went viral.
James, who has served as a bridesmaid for 12 weddings, posted a photo on Reddit of herself jumping out of frame after taking photos with her friend Amy and her soon-to-be husband Riley up at Sundance.
As you can see below, the photographer caught James in the shot.
ABC News picked up on the photo, calling James the "bridesmaid of the year."
"I've gotten kind of a reputation of being the wedding person to go to. I'm a take-charge person," she told ABC. "I get things done. ... No matter how difficult or frustrating it was for you, you know it's worth it."
No problems with dams in Utah
More than 200,000 Californians evacuated their homes after they spotted a hole in the Oroville dam's emergency spillway, according to Time.
But Utahns don’t have to worry about any dams bursting open and flooding cities, at least for now, an official told the Deseret News on Monday.
"From everything that we can determine … we've not been able to see anything that's happening, other than what you'd expect to be happening," Dave Marble, assistant state engineer, told the Deseret News.
Marble said the Beehive State doesn’t specifically own dams, but it does oversee close to 200 of them that could be hazardous since they’re in “bad shape,” Deseret News reported.
Marble said, “there’s an ongoing effort on a regular basis … to make sure that they're being taken care of.”
Speaking of the dam …
Los Angeles Times reporter Chris Megerian posted a video of the Oroville dam’s dangerous water.
