PROVO — The City Council is accepting applications for three positions on the Metropolitan Water District Board.
The district is an independent agency created by the city under the authority of state law that manages water rights within city boundaries, repays the debt related to Deer Creek Dam, and occasionally provides funding for wells and piping.
The district is run by a board of trustees that consists of five members. One of the members is a city employee responsible for Provo's water supply and distribution. The remaining board members are appointed by the City Council and may not be employees or elected or appointed officials of Provo.
Board members normally serve four-year terms, although state law requires the terms be staggered, which may affect the length of a term. The Metropolitan Water Board generally meets quarterly in March, June, September and December.
An appointed board member must be a registered voter, a property taxpayer and a city resident.
