The Westminster women’s lacrosse team picked up its first win of the season with a 21-14 decision at Concordia, St. Paul on Friday night at the Concordia Dome.

Kira Heiden tied her school record in NCAA play with seven goals while also adding one assist for eight points. She put all nine of her shot attempts on cage and led the team with eight draw controls while getting four caused turnovers.

After the two teams traded scoring runs to start the game, Westminster (1-1) tallied four-straight goals to lead 6-3 midway through the first half. Concordia (2-1) trimmed the deficit to 10-9 with 24:27 to play in the second half before the Griffins used a 5-1 run to extend the advantage to 15-10 with 14 minutes remaining.

The Griffins put the game away for good with five-straight goals in an eight-minute span that had them leading 21-13 with 1:23 on the clock.

Allison Lambert scored the first goal of the game – the first of her career – and she finished the evening with six goals. Morgan Bakarich added two goals and set a school NCAA record with four assists. Kristina Sewell and Katie Adams added two goals apiece.

Westminster took 42 shots in the game with 32 of those on goal. The Griffins converted on 4-of-9 free-position attempts, and they were successful on 16-of-19 clearing chances. They held CSP to 35 shots and forced the Golden Bears into 39 turnovers.

Taylor Hekking earned the win in cage with eight saves in 32 minutes. Mikala Anderson played the final 28 minutes with five stops.

CSP got five goals from Kailey Heinl and four from Alina Boyce.

The Griffins complete their weekend in Minnesota on Saturday when they face Findlay at 11:30 a.m. MST, in the Concordia Dome.
