JENSEN, Uintah County — Firefighters continue to battle a brush fire near U.S. 40 east of Vernal, officials reported. The fire burned 920 acres of land so far, but officials hope to fully contain the fire by Thursday.

BLM spokeswoman Kelsey Birchell said no structures are threatened. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

On Tuesday, the highway was closed for two hours in both directions at the Jensen and Colorado border, reopening about 8 p.m.

Engines from the BLM, Dinosaur National Monument, Ashley National Forest, Jensen, Naples and Vernal assisted in containing the fire. Birchell expects all the engines, except for the BLM, will be released Thursday.
