SPANISH FORK — A 6-year-old boy drowned in the swimming area of a community reservoir Saturday evening, police said.
The boy, who is from North Dakota, was reported missing about 4:25 p.m.
The boy's body was recovered from water that was about 5 feet deep about 35 minutes later by a bystander who was in the swimming area of Spanish Oaks Reservoir.
Emergency responders performed CPR, and the boy was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital. Medical personnel were unable to revive him.
The boy and his family were in Utah County for a family reunion that was being held at a campsite near the reservoir, said Spanish Fork Police Sgt. Chris Sheriff. Family members and others searched for the boy for about 15 minutes before calling the police.
The child's name was not immediately released by police, pending notification of relatives.
