WEST VALLEY CITY — Police are searching for four men they say confronted a man outside a West Valley apartment Sunday afternoon, firing several gunshots to frighten him.

The man reported he was outside an apartment complex at 1254 W. River Harvest Court just after noon when he was approached by four men, according to West Valley Police Lt. Jeff Conder. The victim told police the men claimed he had threatened their cousin at a party a week earlier, but he didn't know what they were talking about.

The victim told police one of the four men pulled a gun, which he grabbed, and the two wrestled over the weapon, Conder said. As the man was on the ground, Conder said one of the men kicked him several times and then fired the gun into the ground near him.

The man suffered only minor bumps and bruises, Conder said.

Police set up a perimeter around the apartment complex as they searched for the men, who had not been located Sunday afternoon. Conder said police are investigating whether there are any gang connections to the alleged crime and whether any of the four suspects live in the apartment complex.

The victim told police that all four men were Hispanic, around 5 feet 6 inches or 5 feet 7 inches tall, and about 160 pounds. One man had silver teeth, according to Conder, while the others had facial hair and mustaches.
