SANDY — A Lehi man is dead after falling off the Bell Canyon trail on Saturday.

Members of Salt Lake County and Utah County search and rescue teams responded to a call about a fallen hiker around 9:20 a.m. Responders learned that the victim, Zachery Zimmerman, 39, had fallen near the Big Horn Peak area of the trail, a four-hour hike from the trailhead, Lt. Brian Lohrke of the Unified Police Department said. Witnesses told police that Zimmerman had been hiking with a friend and had been moving near a cliff when he slipped, falling 500 feet.

A pair of medical helicopters responded to the incident, and a paramedic was able to reach the victim and retrieve his body.

Officials are still investigating the incident.
