USU track: AJ Boully and Clay Lambourne to compete at USATF Outdoor Championships

Utah State’s AJ Boully and Clay Lambourne are set to compete in their signature events at the USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships this week. The national meet will be held at Hornet Stadium in Sacramento, California, from June 22-25.

Boully, who graduated last month with a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies, recorded his qualifying time in the 400-meter hurdles at the Mountain West Outdoor Championships, where he captured the conference title in a personal-best 49.48 seconds, which ranks third all-time in school history.

Earlier this month, Boully competed at the NCAA Outdoor Finals at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, for the second-consecutive year. He earned second-team All-America honors after placing 13th in the semifinals of the 400m hurdles with a time of 50.47. The native of Boise, Idaho, is a four-time outdoor conference champion in the 400m hurdles, winning the title twice in the WAC and twice in the Mountain West.

Boully will compete in the first round of the 400m hurdles on Friday at 7:40 p.m. MT.

For Lambourne, he recorded his qualifying time in the 800 meters at the NCAA West Preliminary Championships, where he placed third in the quarterfinals in a personal-best 1:47.09, which ranks second all-time in USU history.

Lambourne wrapped up his junior campaign with the Aggies by garnering second-team All-America honors after placing ninth in the 800m with a time of 1:47.19 at the NCAA Outdoor Finals. The native of Riverton, Utah, is a four-time conference champion in the 800 meters, including three times during the indoor season.

Lambourne will compete in the first round of the 800m on Thursday at 6 p.m. MT.

The USATF Outdoor Track and Field Championships serve as a qualifying meet for the 2017 IAAF World Championships in London in August. The top-three finishers per event will earn a spot on Team USA, should they reach the IAAF qualifying standards.

NBC, NBCSN and NBC Sports Gold will air comprehensive live coverage of the USATF Outdoor Championships.

Four other Aggies in Maia Garren (women’s shot put and hammer), Darren Harman (5,000 meters), LeAnn Larkin (1,500 and 3,000 meters) and Bailee Parker (3,000 and 5,000 meters) will all be competing at the USATF Junior Outdoor Championships, which also begins Thursday at Hornet Stadium. This Utah State quartet recently concluded their freshman campaigns.

Garren recorded her qualifying marks of 14.51m in the shot put and 50.42m in the hammer throw, both of which are personal bests, at the Utah State-hosted Mark Faldmo Invitational and BYU-hosted Clarence Robison Invitational, respectively. Her mark in the shot put ranks 10th all-time in school history.

Harman notched his qualifying time of 14:31.72 in the 5,000m, which is a personal best, at the UC Irvine-hosted Spring Collegiate Classic.

Larkin tallied her qualifying times of 4:32.60 in the 1,500m and 9:53.81 in the 3,000m, both of which are personal bests, at the UCLA-hosted Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational and UCI Spring Collegiate Classic, respectively. Her time in the 3,000m ranks fifth all-time in school history.

Parker recorded her qualifying times of 9:58.65 in the 3,000m and 17:16.43 in the 5,000m, both of which are personal bests and rank in the top 10 in school history, at the UCI Spring Collegiate Classic and Stanford-hosted Cardinal Classic, respectively.

The 2017 USATF Junior Track and Field Championships will serve as the selection meet for the 2017 Pan American Junior Championships, which will be held July 21-23, in Trujillo, Peru.
