FARMINGTON — Police have identified a man who drowned this week in Farmington Pond.
The body of David Senatus, 23, was recovered late Tuesday. Senatus was using a rope to swing over the pond, 750 N. 75 West, and jump into the water. But friends told Davis County sheriff's deputies that he was swimming back when he started having trouble and went under.
The sheriff's office said the pond currently has a lot of "pure snow runoff" in it, making it very cold and difficult to swim in.
A dive team recovered the man's body about 90 minutes after 911 was called.
Senatus is mainly from the Santa Cruz, California, and Boston areas, but he did have some ties to Davis County, according to the sheriff's office.
On Facebook, tributes were posted by friends and even the Belmont Marauders media page in Massachusetts where they say Senatus graduated in 2013 and played football and rugby for the high school.
"Rest In peace brother man David Senatus. Nothing but great and funny memories with you," one person posted.
"This is the saddest thing ever. I will forever cherish the many great memories we had together and I will never forget you," wrote another.
