The Pacific West Conference announced on Monday its 2016-17 Academic All-Conference list recognizing a league-record 1,692 student-athletes for their collective academic and athletic achievements in the classroom this past season.
Dixie State University placed 139 student-athletes on the annual PacWest list, which is the third-highest single-season total in DSU's 10-year membership and is the fifth-highest total of the 14 full-member league institutions. Two DSU athletes posted perfect 4.00 grade point average this past academic year in women's soccer players Gina Tedrow and Nichole Mertz, while men's basketball players Josh Fuller and Austin Montgomery and freshman men's golfer Carson Walker each recorded a 3.99 GPA.
In addition, junior women's volleyball player Malary Marshall and women's soccer player Darian McCloy each posted a 3.98 GPA this past season. Overall, Dixie State posted a 3.135 cumulative grade point average for its 13 PacWest sponsored sports.
"We are very proud of the academic accomplishments of our outstanding student-athletes," says Dr. Jason Boothe, DSU director of athletics. "They represent the true meaning of the student-athlete, being students first. Well done."
Student-athletes who achieve at least a cumulative 3.0 GPA and are eligible for participation or practice in their respective sports, receive Academic All-PacWest recognition. For the complete DSU list, please visit Dixie State's athletics website.
