TAYLORSVILLE — A man died Saturday following a car crash in a Taylorsville intersection.
About 3:15 p.m., the driver of a sedan driving east on 5400 South ignored a red light at 2700 West and collided with another vehicle in that intersection, causing the sedan to go airborne, hit a pole and catch fire, said Unified Police Lt. Brian Lohrke.
The driver of the sedan, a 20-year-old Salt Lake man, died from his injuries. His name was not immediately released.
The female driver of the other vehicle didn't suffer any signficant injuries and was not taken to a hospital, Lohrke said.
Witnesses reported the man "was driving very recklessly, very fast" before running the red light, the lieutenant added.
Eastbound 5300 South and southbound 2700 West were closed for several hours.
