Dixie State tennis: Trailblazers add two for 2017-18 season

,

Dixie State women’s tennis head coach Eric Pelton announced the signing of Yolena Carlon and Hattie Erekson, who will join the Trailblazers beginning in the 2017-18 season.

Carlon comes to Dixie State after two seasons at Mesa Community College in Mesa, Arizona. Carlon, who was a two-time All-ACCAC honoree and was nationally ranked in singles (38th) and doubles (20th) play, helped the Thunderbirds to back-to-back conference and region titles, as well as a third-place finish at the NJCAA National Championships as a freshman. Carlon prepped at Desert Vista High School in Phoenix, where she earned a state semifinal appearance after winning the All-City Tournament at No. 1 singles as a senior.

“We're very excited to have a player the caliber of Yolena joining our team this year,” Pelton said. “She had an amazing career at the JC level achieving a national ranking in singles and doubles. She is a strong player with a number of big wins and will definitely make a big difference for us this coming year.”

Erekson joins the Trailblazer squad after an illustrious prep career at Pine View High School in St. George. Erekson helped the Panthers to the Utah 3A State Team Championship as a sophomore in 2014, winning the No. 3 singles state title in the process. Erekson earned back-to-back region championships as a junior and senior and finished the 2016 region season unbeaten in singles play.

“We are very excited to have Hattie joining our program,” Pelton said. “She had a very successful high school and junior career, and we know that she will help make a big difference for us with her work ethic and positive energy.”
