WOODS CROSS — Police are investigating a crash on the border of Bountiful and Woods Cross that killed a motorcyclist Wednesday night.

Peter Scott Howey, 24, was heading south on U.S. 89 just before 11 p.m. when he was hit by a truck turning left at the intersection of 2600 South, according to Bountiful Police Sgt. Dan Schultz.

Howey, of North Salt Lake, died at the scene.

Schultz said Howey was wearing a helmet and protective gear at the time of the crash.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, Schultz said, though police don't believe impairment or a malfunction of either vehicle contributed to the crash. While some rain did fall during the evening, roads in the area were dry at the time, he said.

Schultz said police will reach out to businesses near the crash to see whether surveillance cameras captured any part of the incident.

The intersection of the two busy roads isn't known for accidents, he said.

"It's a very busy intersection, but we haven't had a whole lot of crashes at this intersection," Schultz said.
