What's new: Ed Pinegar shares collection of quotes, scriptures in 'It's Great to Be a Missionary'

IT'S GREAT TO BE A MISSIONARY: Daily Insights and Inspirations,” by Ed J. Pinegar, Covenant Communications, $11.99, 268 pages (nf)

Ed J. Pinegar has collected uplifting quotes and scriptures for missionaries of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in “It’s Great to Be a Missionary.”

“This little book is designed to help and encourage you as your serve your mission,” Pinegar writes in the introduction. “There will be tried-and-true principles that you can understand and put into practice.”

The quotes are from various leaders of the LDS Church, both past and present, and each quote or scripture has a headline and includes the source.

He starts with “O Ye that Embark in the Service of God” from Doctrine and Covenants 4:1-7 and “Be Anxiously Engaged in the Work” from President Spencer W. Kimball.

“Open Your Mouth” on page 67 has a quote from Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. A quote on “Trial of Your Faith” from Ether 12:16 is on page 167 and one on “The Worth of Souls” from Elder M. Russell Ballard of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles is on page 205.

It ends with “Remember Your Discipleship,” which includes several scriptures and a thought and question from Pinegar.

The book’s size — 4 inches by 6 inches — makes it easier to fit in a pocket or bag

While many of the quotes may be familiar and available elsewhere, this is a nice compilation for those serving or preparing to serve LDS missions.

Pinegar, who has taught seminary and religion classes at Brigham Young University, is the author of more than 60 books. He has served as a mission president in England and at the Missionary Training Center in Provo and he and his wife, Pat, are serving as the Manti Utah Temple president and matron.
