17-year-old killed in drive-by shooting in Kearns

KEARNS — Unified police are seeking the public's assistance for information regarding a drive-by shooting Saturday night that killed one 17-year-old and injured another.

The department is anyone with information about the identity of the shooter or the vehicle used in the crime to call (801) 743-7000.

The shooting occurred about 10:45 p.m. at approximately 8083 W. 3300 South, according to Unified police. The second teen was transported to a hospital in good condition.

The two were standing in a front yard when multiple rounds were fired at them from a car described as a white sedan, possibly a Volkswagen Jetta or a Kia, said Unified police detective Ken Hansen.

The teens' names were not released.

According to Hansen, a car turned the corner near the house and shots were fired, striking the victims. The incident is believed to be gang related, Hansen said.
